What are Bach Flower Remedies?
Many people today live separated from nature, not only in a physical way but in the heart and mind. Flower essences are unique in that they bring the individual back to nature and supply what is needed most to help balance the emotions and improve overall well-being.
Bach Flower remedies were developed by Dr Edward Bach, a British physician and homeopath, in the 1930s. Dr Bach believed that emotional imbalances and stress were part of many physical illnesses, and that by addressing these emotional issues, the body’s natural healing mechanisms could be activated.
He identified 38 different flower essences, each corresponding to a specific emotional state, such as fear, sadness or anger. He was inspired to turn to nature for gentle non-invasive and non–toxic essences that would bring harmony and restore balance to body and mind.
The flower essences are typically diluted in water and taken orally, either directly or added to a drink. They are believed to work by stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities and restoring emotional balance. Bach Flower remedies are often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medicine are safe and non-toxic and can be used by everyone young and old and even animals.
The most known of the remedies is a combination known as “Rescue Remedy” and is a blend of five individual Bach flower essences, which comprises:
- Star of Bethlehem – for shock, trauma, and distress
- Rock Rose – for terror, panic, and extreme fear
- Cherry Plum – for irrational thoughts and the fear of losing control
- Impatiens – for impatience and irritability
- Clematis – for feeling spacey, ungrounded, or disconnected from reality
These essences are believed to work together synergistically to provide a sense of calm and balance during times of stress and anxiety.
